Dovetail, Mortise, and Halved Joint Experimentation

Hello, friends! Sorry about the two week hiatus, M and I have started house shopping and it's been on the forefront of our minds.

Notwithstanding, M has been experimenting with his dyes and stains, and trying out a host of new joints. We found a bench design we both really liked, so M went ahead and drew out our future bench.

Which is why he's trying out the different joints - which ones do we like, that he enjoys doing, that also is strong and reliable? I think the dovetail joint looks really neat, but he prefers doing the through mortise. He also tried the tenon joint, which looks cool.

Keep in mind, these joints are the first time he's done this, so please excuse how crude they are. He also does all of the cutting by hand. Also, you can see some of the experimentation M did with stains, dyes, and finishes on the boards.

A. Dovetail Joint

B, Through Mortise Joint

C. Tenon Joint

Which one is your favorite?

While M designs and experiments, I've been relaxing. We visited my sister and brother-in-law, and had a wonderful time with them during our long weekend.

Happy (belated) birthday, America!

My sister made these beautiful and delicious drinks, they are prickly pear margaritas. Delicious!

Would you like to see an explanation of how to do any of the joints listed above? If so, leave a comment and let us know your thoughts!

Thanks for checking this out and have a great day.
